Offensive Philosophy and Position Profiles

Picture
Offensive Philosophy

There are three main keys to this offense:
  1. Stretch the Defense Horizontally & Vertically
  2. Be Physical in the Run Game
  3. Maintain Balance Between Running & Passing

If you could only run a few plays, they would be:
  • Runs: Zone, Power, Counter
  • Screens: Bubbles & Stutters
  • Passes: Squeeze, Quake, & Verticals

Offensive Metrics
The only stat that matters in the end is the score. 600 yards of offense and a loss is not good football. However, there are some metrics you can use to determine how well your offense is performing beyond the scoreboard:
  • Effort: Always compete & get after your opponent
  • Sloppy Defense: Number of snaps with the Defense not lined up properly because of your tempo
  • Pancake Blocks: Total, per player, & per game
  • Plays with No Gain: Total & per game
  • Sacks Allowed: Total, per game, & per throw
  • Bad Snaps: Total, per game, & per player

Stretching the Field
It is critical that you make the defense defend the entire field on every play. By making defenses defend 53 1/2 yards wide by 110 yard vertical. This puts your players in space and allows them to make plays.

On every play, divide the field into six zones from the line of scrimmage (see above image)

Then determine the zone where the defense is the weakest and attack it. We call this finding the best grass. Determine your best grass and attack it.

Core Offensive Values

It's Not What We Do It's
But How We Do It
We Do Everything with Tempo
The way we practice, run drills, transition between practice periods, coach, & play — everything
Practice is Organized & Script. We Practice Fast.
No one stands around in practice; everyone is always moving & participating. Every player is active and getting a rep every 20-30 seconds during the entire practice.
Reps, Reps, More Reps
Practice things over and over and over.
Control the Tempo
Control the outcome of the game by controlling the tempo
Use Tempo Builders
Hot words, quick calls, alerts, & repeating the same play keep the tempo fast and the defense on their heels.
Never Huddle
Huddles waste time (in both practices & games) and allow defensive coaches to think & players time to catch their breath.
Communicate from the Sidelines
Use hand signals, picture boards, wrist bands.
OL Understand Protection Line Calls & Snap Count
Center makes the OL calls & calls the snap unless a receiver is in motion.
QB Understand Protection & Line Calls
Communicate by using numbers for Runs & Protections, words for Passes.
Never Stop Attacking
Always be the aggressor
No Individuals. Only Team
Never let your players forget that you are a team. Players worried about individual needs don’t play.

Coaching Matters

It's Not What We Do It's
But How We Do It
Coaching Matters
  • We ill be the best practice coaches in the league, region or state.
Energy and Excitement
  • Always bring a high level of energy and excitement to everything we do
Coach every single rep
  • Coach every player and every rep like it is the rep that will win the game.
  • Coach every rep with tempo
  • Focus should be on reps, provide immediate and quick feedback
  • Do not slow down or stop practice for one player at a time
Coach Post Practice
  • Coach using video
  • Film practice and analyze practice and players via video review.
  • Use practice video to provide player improvement instructions
  • In addition to player reviews  always self scout yourself as a coach.
